Our story Art made by hand, by an artist Two generations, one habit. My father worked in oil on canvas, paintings that still hang on other people walls. I grew up watching a brush find the shape before the shape existed. The tools changed, the craft did not. Canvas became pixels, but every piece here is still composed by hand, one at a time, then prepared as a printable file you download the moment you pay. Read the full story

Frequently Asked Questions | DEUSPIXEL
Questions

Everything people actually ask

Grouped by topic and written plainly. If your question is not here, message us and we will answer within one working day, then add it to this page.

Before you buy Files and delivery Sizes and frames Printing Personalised art Payment and refunds Using the artwork When something goes wrong
Before you buy

What this shop actually sells

The single most common misunderstanding with printable art, cleared up first.

Will a printed poster be posted to me?

No. Nothing physical is ever shipped. You are buying digital files that you download and print yourself, either at home or through a print shop.

This is why the price is a fraction of a shipped poster, and why it arrives in minutes rather than a week.

Why buy a file instead of an actual print?

Three practical reasons.

  • It costs less, because you are not paying for paper, packaging or international postage
  • You choose the size, the paper and the frame, rather than accepting ours
  • Nothing arrives bent, and nothing is held at customs

The trade off is honest: you have to do the printing. If you would rather somebody handed you a finished framed poster, a physical print shop is the better choice.

Can I see the quality before I spend anything?

Yes, and we would rather you did. There is a free prints category. Download one, print it the way you plan to print the paid designs, and judge the result yourself.

It costs you nothing and it answers the quality question far better than we can in writing.

Do I need any special software?

No. You need something that opens a PDF, which every computer and phone already has, and the ability to view a JPEG, which is the most common image format there is.

No Photoshop, no design skills, no account to create, nothing to install.

Is the design exclusive to me?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. The same design is sold to other customers. You are buying a personal use licence, not ownership of the artwork.

Personalised name art is different in one respect: the name is yours, so the exact file is unique to your order, but the underlying design is not exclusive.

Do you take requests for a design you do not sell?

Ask. If it is a small change to something we already sell, a different colour or a different word, it is often possible. A completely new commission usually is not, simply because of time.

Either way you will get a straight yes or no rather than being left waiting.

Files and delivery

What arrives, and how

One PDF does the whole job. Here is exactly what is in it.

What exactly do I receive?

One PDF. Inside it is a private link to your high resolution artwork files, plus the printing guide.

The artwork itself is supplied as JPEG at 300 DPI, in five print ratios covering more than twenty standard frame sizes.

It is deliberately not a ZIP folder. Zip files confuse phones, get blocked by some email providers, and are awkward on older computers. A PDF opens everywhere.
How quickly do I get it?

Ready made designs: immediately. The download appears as soon as payment clears, and the same link is emailed to you.

Personalised name art: 12 to 24 hours, because a person actually sets your name into the design rather than a script pasting it in.

Does my download link expire?

No. Your link does not expire, and you can come back to it later.

Even so, save the files somewhere safe when you first download them. If you ever lose the link, message us with your order number and we will resend it.

Should I download on my phone or a computer?

A computer, if you have one. Two reasons.

  • Some phones and messaging apps compress images, which quietly reduces the quality of what you end up printing
  • The link inside the PDF is simply easier to click and manage on a larger screen

A phone will work. A computer is less likely to cause a problem.

What is 300 DPI and why does it matter?

Dots per inch, the density of detail in the file. 300 DPI is the standard for printed work, and it means the artwork stays sharp at every size we list.

A screenshot or a web image is usually 72 DPI, roughly a quarter of the detail, which is why a screenshot always prints badly.

Can I get the file in another format?

The artwork is JPEG, which every printer and every print shop accepts without question. That is why we use it.

If your print shop specifically asks for something else, message us and we will see what we can do.

Is the artwork watermarked?

No. The preview images on the product page may carry a mark, but the files you download are clean. You are paying for a usable print.

Sizes and frames

Will it fit my frame

The most asked question about printable art, answered properly.

Which sizes are included with every purchase?

Every purchase includes five ratios, which between them cover twenty two standard sizes.

  • 2:3 covers 4×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30 and 24×36 inches
  • 3:4 covers 6×8, 9×12, 12×16, 15×20 and 18×24 inches
  • 4:5 covers 4×5, 8×10, 12×15 and 16×20 inches
  • 11:14 covers 11×14 and 22×28 inches
  • ISO A covers A5, A4, A3, A2 and A1

You print one of the five, not all of them. The full chart with centimetres is on the printing guide.

How do I work out which ratio my frame is?

Measure the frame opening, not the outside of the frame. Divide the long side by the short side. Then match that number.

  • 1.25 is 4:5
  • 1.27 is 11:14
  • 1.33 is 3:4
  • 1.41 is ISO A
  • 1.50 is 2:3

For example a 30 by 40 cm frame gives 40 divided by 30, which is 1.33, so you print the 3:4 file.

Honest warning: 4:5 and 11:14 are only 0.02 apart. If your measurement falls between them, print 4:5. It is the more common frame and the difference over a 40 cm print is roughly half a centimetre, which a mount covers.
My frame size is not on your list

Send us the measurements. Most unusual frames still match one of the five ratios, and we will tell you which file to print.

If it genuinely matches none of them, a print shop can print the nearest ratio slightly larger and trim it to fit.

Is the design portrait or landscape?

Whichever it was designed as, and the product page shows you clearly. Most wall art is portrait.

Do not rotate a portrait file to fill a landscape frame. The composition will be wrong and anything near the edges may be cut.

Can I print it bigger than the largest size listed?

A little larger is usually fine, because viewing distance increases with size and 300 DPI leaves some headroom. Considerably larger will start to soften.

Tell us the size you want before you print and we will tell you honestly whether it will hold up.

Do you supply sizes in centimetres as well as inches?

Yes. Every size is listed both ways, and the ISO A sizes are the standard used across Europe, so you do not need to convert anything yourself.

Printing

Getting a good result

Short version: turn off fit to page, and use proper paper.

What if I have no printer at all?

Not at all, and for anything above A3 a print shop gives a better result anyway.

Take the file on a USB stick or email it to a local copy shop, photo lab or stationery shop. Or upload it to an online printing service and have it delivered. We list tested services for the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and Australia on the how it works page.

What should I say to a print shop?

This one sentence covers everything they need.

“I would like this printed at [size], at 100 percent scale with no resizing and no cropping, on matte photo paper, 200 gsm or heavier.”

If they ask about colour profile, the files are standard sRGB, which is what they expect by default.

Which paper should I use?

Matte photo paper, 180 gsm or heavier, is our recommendation. No glare, deep colour, and it looks like a gallery print rather than a photograph.

Satin or lustre gives a little more punch if the design has deep blacks. Heavy art paper is the most expensive looking option and suits line art.

Ordinary 80 gsm copier paper is the one thing that will make good artwork look cheap. It is thin, it curls, and it shows through the frame.
What is the single most important printer setting?

Scale set to 100 percent, sometimes called Actual size.

Turn off Fit to page, Shrink to fit and any automatic scaling. That one setting causes most of the bad prints we hear about, because it silently shrinks the artwork and leaves uneven white borders.

My print looks different from my monitor. Why?

Close, but never identical, and that is physics rather than a fault. A screen emits light, paper reflects it, so a print always looks slightly softer than a bright screen.

Large shifts usually mean one of two things: the printer is set to plain paper while you are using photo paper, or a print shop applied automatic colour correction meant for holiday snaps. Both are fixable.

Should I print borderless?

Only if you want the artwork to reach the very edge of the paper. Borderless printing crops a few millimetres off every side.

If you are framing with a mount, you do not need it, because the mount covers the margin anyway.

Is there a limit on how many times I can print it?

Yes. Print it as many times as you like for your own home, and print a copy to give as a gift. There is no per print limit and no expiry.

Personalised art

Custom name designs

These work slightly differently from the ready made designs.

How long does personalised name art take?

12 to 24 hours. Unlike the ready made designs it is not instant, because a person sets your name into the artwork by hand so the spacing and weight look right.

I spelled the name wrong. Can it be fixed?

Yes, if you tell us quickly. Message us as soon as you notice and we will correct it before the file is finished, at no charge.

If the file has already been delivered and the spelling you supplied was wrong, we will still usually fix it, but it becomes a favour rather than an obligation. Check the spelling at checkout.

Can I choose the font or the colours?

Each personalised design has its own style, and that style is the design. Small changes such as a different accent colour are often possible, so ask before ordering.

Do accented and non-English letters work?

Usually yes. Croatian characters such as c with a caron, and most European accents, are supported in the majority of the fonts we use.

If a particular character is not available in that font we will tell you before charging you, not after.

Can I get a personalised design refunded?

If we made the mistake, yes, always. If the design is exactly what you asked for and you simply changed your mind, no, because it was made specifically for you and cannot be resold.

That is the standard position for personalised goods across the EU.

Payment and refunds

Money questions

Including the one about refunds that most shops word vaguely on purpose.

What currency are the prices in?

US dollars. Your bank converts at its own rate, and may add a small foreign transaction fee, which is between you and your bank rather than something we charge.

Is VAT or sales tax added at checkout?

No. The price you see is the price you pay, with nothing added at the end.

DEUSPIXEL is not registered for VAT. VAT is not charged under Article 90, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Croatian VAT Act.

Is there a discount for buying several designs?

The discount is applied automatically in the cart, based on how many designs you buy. Mix any designs you like.

  • 1 to 4 designs, full price
  • 5 or more, save 20 percent
  • 10 or more, save 40 percent
  • 20 or more, save 60 percent

You do not need a code, and it works with any product price.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

No, and we would rather say so plainly than bury it. Once you have downloaded a digital file it cannot be returned, so change of mind refunds are not offered.

At checkout you tick a box agreeing to immediate access and waiving the 14 day right of withdrawal. That is what makes instant delivery possible.

This does not remove your rights if something is actually wrong. See the next question.
When will you refund me?

Whenever the fault is ours. Specifically:

  • The file is corrupt or will not open
  • The file does not match its description
  • A ratio or a file is missing from your download
  • We made a mistake on a personalised design
  • Your download link cannot be made to work
  • You paid but were never given access

Full detail is on the refund policy page. Nothing in our terms removes consumer rights your own country gives you.

Why did I have to tick a box about waiving my rights?

Because EU law gives you 14 days to cancel most online purchases, and digital files are the exception only if you explicitly agree to immediate delivery.

Without that tick we would legally have to make you wait 14 days before downloading. The box is what allows the file to arrive in seconds.

Do I need an account to buy?

No. You can check out as a guest. An account simply makes it easier to find your past downloads later.

Using the artwork

What you may and may not do

You are buying a personal use licence. Here is where the line sits.

What am I allowed to do with it?

Anything personal, essentially.

  • Print the same design several times for different rooms
  • Print it and give it to somebody as a present
  • Take the file to a print shop on a USB stick
  • Hang it in a home office where you work remotely
  • Post a photo of your wall on social media
  • Print it on canvas instead of paper
What am I not allowed to do?

Anything that amounts to reselling our work or using it to make money.

  • Sell prints of it, at a market stall or anywhere else
  • List the file for sale on Etsy, Gumroad or similar
  • Put it on mugs, shirts or other products to sell
  • Share the file publicly or pass it to other people
Can I use it in my business or a rental property?

Ask first. A shared office at work, a flat let out on Airbnb, a cafe wall, or a monetised video background all sit outside a personal licence.

It is often fine, but it needs a different arrangement. Message us and we will sort something out rather than leave you guessing.

Can I give the file to a friend?

No. The licence belongs to you, not to whoever you pass the file to. You may absolutely print a copy and give them the print, which is what most people actually want.

Does the licence expire?

No. It lasts indefinitely, worldwide, with no renewal and no subscription, unless the licence terms are broken.

The full terms are on the licence page, including a table of sixteen real world scenarios.

When something goes wrong

Fixing the usual problems

Nearly everything that goes wrong has one of these causes.

My print came out with an unexpected white border

Scaling is set to fit to page. Change it to 100 percent or Actual size and print again.

The edges of my print are missing

The ratio does not match the paper. Printing a 2:3 file onto A4 paper, which is 1.41, will always crop something.

Print the ISO A file on A series paper, and the inch ratios on inch sized paper.

The print looks blurry

Almost always one of three things: you printed from a preview window rather than the downloaded file, you saved a screenshot instead of the original, or you enlarged a small ratio well beyond its size.

Download the original again and print that.

I never received my email

Check the spam or promotions folder first, that is where it usually is. The download is also available in your account if you created one.

If it is genuinely missing, message us and we will resend it.

The PDF opens but the link inside does nothing

Some phone PDF viewers do not handle links well. Open the PDF on a computer, or copy the link and paste it into a browser.

How do I contact you, and how fast will you reply?

Use the contact page. We answer within one working day.

If it is about an order, include your order number and it will be sorted faster.

Still nothing

If your question is not on this page, send it over. We answer within one working day, and genuinely useful questions end up added here for the next person.
